How to Fix File Missing/Audio/Video Codec Issues on Smart TV

You have a Samsung, Sony, LG or other smart TV. You download the video and place it on a USB stick or memory card. Connect this device to the back of the TV and enjoy your day. Suddenly you notice that the file is missing or that the video file is present, but the audio or video file does not work.

Like you, there were a lot of people. But don’t worry, a blog post will help you solve this problem and enjoy the rest of the day as planned.

What is causing this problem?

Smart TVs support different formats such as MKV, MP4, MWV etc., but there are some extensions such as M4V that do not support smart TVs. Depending on the brand and model of your TV, one of the following problems may occur:

  1. Audio files/codecs are not supported
  2. Video file/codecs not supported
  3. Missing file

There are many ways to tackle this problem, but unfortunately we can’t do much due to the limitations of the user and the lack of equipment. But there is a quick solution that we can apply, and it doesn’t require a lot of technical knowledge. You’re gonna need it:

  1. PC (Windows, MacOS or Linux).
  2. Video conversion software (VLC Media Player) | Free open source video player.

Step 01

Connect the USB memory device or camera to your computer. For faster troubleshooting, copy the video to your computer because your USB device may be slow and the process may not run at full speed.

Step 02

Turnover/storage in VLC on a Windows computer

Open the VLC media player and go to the Media section in the upper right corner and click the Convert/Save button.

Conversion process to VLC Media Player

On the next screen a menu appears with the desired information. To add a video, click the Add button on the right. If you have a subtitle file, you can add it to the option under the video list. You can add multiple files by adding them to the video list. If you are satisfied, click the Convert/Save button.

Step 03

Second phase of conversion to VLC media player

The following screen is important. Upstairs you have your video. In what follows, we have a few options. Make sure the conversion option is selected. In the profile we define the format and size of the video. As mentioned before, smart TVs support formats such as MP4, MKV, WMV, etc., but if you go to the profile menu, you will find different titles, but there is one that displays video statistics for MPEG4. It can be converted to an MP4 extension that supports smart TVs.

There are two profile options. One with 720p and the other with 1080p. How do you choose the right size? It’s a good idea to choose the same size for the converted video. How to find the resolution of the original video :

Right click on the video and select Properties. Click on the Details tab at the top of the page. Scroll down until you see the options for the width and height of the frame. If the altitude is 720p, select 720p, and for 1080p – 1080p.

Then select an output destination for the converted video. After selecting a destination, the start button is activated. Press the start button.

Step 4

Conversion progress to LVC

The progress indicator advances and takes some time depending on the length of the video. When the progress bar moves to the end, the conversion process is complete. Copy the converted video to the USB port and play it on your TV. Your video will be there, and the audio/video problem will no longer be a problem. So here’s how to fix problems with missing and unsupported audio or video codecs on your Smart TV.
