Defiance, the first ever MMO multi-platform game released, but Defiance is more than that, according to Trion Worlds it’s a MMO combined with a TV series that is going live on April 16th.
Trion promised us that the Defiance TV series is a revolutionary weekly episode show that impacts the game, and gives you the chance to change the show. But is this going to happen in long term? Can Trion Worlds keep the promise? We don’t know, only time will tell. But right now I’m going to tell you how DEFIANCE looks right now
9+6 Defiance it’s a third person shooter MMO without any classes, you start the game by creating a character with a race and customization of your choice, the game gives a good amount of customization choices to the player, after the character creation you can select a background story for your character that will determine the starting character cloth and items.
After some quick missions, you get to learn 1 skill that can be chosen by the player after a small tutorial showing off each one, after choosing the skill the game presents to you the most seen thing in the MMOs in the last few years : The Skill Tree, this skill tree allows you to spend points in exchange for passive skills, most of skills in the tree are passive skills.
In terms of missions Defiance is no different from any other MMO, it’s your typical kill that X and grab that item and deliver it, there’s not really much to add to it besides the Arkfall events which gather most of the people online to fight to destroy a huge red crystal while fighting waves of enemies. Apart from that, this game only has to offer Player vs Player on “battleground” arenas that are pretty much like any other MMO where you join other random players.
The shooting mechanics of the game are a combination of your typical third person shooter combined with some RPG elements, the grenade has a timer after you use it like if it was a skill from a RPG game. Defiance’s shooting style is like a gun and run game, you aim and zoom in with the crosshairs with your right click and you shoot, the weapons have recoil but maintain it at minimum.
Graphic wise, the game doesn’t look AWESOME, it looks average especially taking in account that it’s a DX9 game only (Yes PC players, we don’t have either DX10 or DX11 available for us unfortunately), but even at DX9 the game struggles sometimes with random FPS drops for 2-9 seconds, Defiance is run on HAVOK’s game engine so you can expect Havok Physics that are no match for NVIDIA PhysicX.
The textures are blurry; the models’ face isn’t all that good and sometimes just by looking at someone’s face or looking at their movements it makes us wonder what year this game is from. If you take Defiance’s objects in details everything you’re going to see are pixels, nothing else. Well you can actually see an even more blurry texture but I’ve already told you that.
The sounds in Defiance are of the worse things in the game, the voice acting is horrible, and the gun sounds can be compared to water guns or NERF guns.
Defiance has only been released this month but Trion promises us a future of patches to fix the game and further game content with paid DLC.
